Funding Agency: European Commission VI Framework Programme
Duration: 2006-2009
A structured modular training programme for early stage researchers in the field of Fetal Medicine is offered to a number of short stays and PhD researchers. The consortium is formed by three European Fetal Medicine Research Centers based in Barcelona, Leuven and London.
The programme has two focus: (1) training and education module involving relevant common fields (fetal physiology and diseases, epidemiology and biostatistics, ethics, pathology, psychological approach, among others), and (2) a specific research training package that will be selected by the fellow in the area of expertise of each of the partners.
The research offered in this programme will be structured into six main research areas, namely (1) Fetal Therapy and Surgery, (2) Prenatal Diagnosis, Screening for chromosomal anomalies and Fetal Imaging, (3) Fetal growth retardation and preeclampsia, (4) Monochorionic twin pregnancy, (5) Pulmonary hypoplasia and (6) Perinatal Neuropsychology.
The specific training will be agreed by the fellow and the host institutions at the time of recruitment. Training will achieved by incorporation of the fellow as a team member into the regular clinical and research activities of the partners. Within each group, the fellows will get integrated more specifically in one research project, which will be the source of specific training, and the context for the complementary training programme. Learning of skills and training will be structured around a main line, which will be complemented with shorter training modules, either mandatory or elective, some well-defined (i.e. rotations and courses) and others continuously present during fellowships (i.e. skills in communication or research management).
The fellowship is structured around fetal health, spanning from early fetal life to childhood, and involving several disciplines, by integration into one of the projects conducted within the group.
Applicants must be nationals of an EU State other than the country of the host organisation, but the programme is not restricted to European citizens. Applications, including a short statement of research interests, detailed CV, should be sent by email to: \n
